Sahlab - Egyptian pudding



Sahlab is a delightful and comforting drink bursting with exotic Middle Eastern flavors, and usually served during cold winter season in Egypt.


Ingredients for Sahlab include milk, cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, orange blossom water, rose water and nuts for garnishing.


Just like hot chocolate, Sahlab is served warm.


Prep time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

Serves: 4


Ingredients

  • 4 cups of Milk

  • 3 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 tsp vanilla Extract

  • ⅓ cup of sugar

  • 2 ½ tbsp rose water

  • Cinnamon

  • Coconut flakes

  • Raisins

  • Crushed nuts


Preparation

  1. Pour milk into a pot and add cornstarch.

  2. Bring the milk up to a boiling temperature and stir to thicken mixture.

  3. Once the milk begins to boil turn the heat down.

  4. Add the vanilla extract, sugar and rose water and stir for a few minutes until it has completely dissolved into mixture.

  5. Serve while it is warm in glass and add toppings mentioned in the ingredients or add your favorites.
